Pat Saito: Improving Transit for Ward 9 Residents

< Back to The Issues

From Pat's Ward9.ca Website:

Lisgar GO Station Opening 2007

Plans are well underway for the new Lisgar GO station. It will be located at Argentia and Tenth Line and will offer commuters from Mississauga and west an alternative to driving into Toronto. I know that many Ward 9 residents are waiting for it to open and the word from GO transit is that things are moving along on schedule.

Lisgar GO stationI have been working closely with our MPP to get this station built and the City is discussing our transit local connections with GO transit. I have also asked staff to look at the feasibility of offering the shuttle service that has been so successful in Meadowvale and which has reduced the amount of traffic on our local roads significantly.

In addition, we will be proceeding with an environmental assessment for the widening of Tenth Line from Derry to Argentia, completing Argentia through to Ninth Line to coincide with the widening of Ninth Line in 2008 and installing the proper traffic controls at Argentia and Tenth Line.

I have also asked staff to add a grade separation for Tenth Line into a future budget. This will be reviewed and added to the priority list.

The station location was selected so as to reduce any impact on surrounding neighbourhoods while providing easy access to commuter service to Ward 9 residents. Traffic coming from Milton, etc. will be able to access the station from the 401/Winston Churchill and travel west on Argentia. Other traffic going to the station will be from the immediate neighbourhoods west of Tenth Line and the road improvement plans have been in place for some time to accommodate this. There will be no need for any traffic to impact residential streets.

This station is well planned to serve our community into the future and will also serve as a pilot for a wind turbine energy project. When opened, it will provide another accessible and efficient link in our existing transportation system.
